CARE International UK

CARE International UK works around the globe to save lives, defeat poverty and achieve social justice

Player-supported charity CARE International UK currently works in 79 poor and developing countries, helping millions of the world's most destitute people find routes out of poverty.

The charity provides life-saving assistance when disaster strikes, and helps people to rebuild their lives afterwards. CARE also works alongside deprived people and communities on long-term programmes to deliver lasting change.

CARE put women and girls at the heart of what they do because they know that we cannot overcome poverty until all people have equal rights and opportunities.

Working Globally To Defeat Poverty

When emergencies strike, CARE works to meet people's basic shelter needs: protection from the elements, security and a base for their livelihoods. CARE International UK hosts a team of shelter experts, who are ready to be deployed at short notice to humanitarian emergencies. CARE is regarded as a world-leader in shelter during emergencies, and in 2017 they won at the prestigious World Habitat Awards, in recognition of their innovative housing projects.

Support from players of People's Postcode Lottery will enable CARE to provide emergency shelter expertise in five under-funded humanitarian emergencies, helping to safely house almost 100,000 people who have been affected by conflict or disaster.

CARE's girls' education programmes are delivered in some of the poorest countries in the world. The charity provides tailored support to school-aged girls and their families, to help girls stay in school, transition from primary into secondary school, or enrol in non-formal classes if they have already been out of school for some time. CARE's interventions help girls avoid early marriage and helps build their confidence and life skills. Support from our players will also help 30,000 marginalised girls in Somalia to have an education.
